It's Coming

Fluttering flags fly
full force
in face of
wind's whipped warnings
- winter's coming

Birds scuttle and dart
foraging for fall's
sumptuous seeds scattered
amongst the blown leaves

A brown bushy tail
flicks and twitches
amidst tree trunks
unearthing edible organics
worthy of winter ware

Haste
must keep the pace
creatures great and small race
lest flurried activity wane
in winter's arms

Frenzied tasks ebb
as wind slacks, slows
and the last leaf drops
on a soft blanket
turned from brown to white

  3. Funny enough, I was snapping some squirrel pics through the windows today - they were busy eating the black walnuts and staring in at me...

I loved the pace of this - suited the urgency of the seasonal changes perfectly!

  4. Nice poem, even if it is about winter. ;)

Seriously...have I mentioned that I don't like winter? I have? Well, never mind then...

  5. * I haven't seen any yet Brian, and am really not anticipating yet, but I know it's coming...

    * Hi Anna! Yes it is. Glad you liked my little verse

    * I shall have to sneak over quick before I head out of town to see your pics Talon. Thanks for the feedback. This time of year is so frenzied with all the animals socking in for winter before their long winter nap. Glad I captured it.

    * Thanks C. Yes, you have, but I do recall a little liberation that you experienced with a set of skates tied to your ankles last winter!
