A poet's life

Well, it looks like the Poet's Rally at Jingle's is no more. As her closing last hurrah, she posted up the Poet of May Awards. I will take it to display with pride. I know that for whatever issues Jingle has, she worked very hard at the rally that she organized. I find it amazing that she always managed to visit so many poets and always find even more every week. She was diligent about commenting and visiting everyone that joined the rally, which I applaud her for. She also visited all participants after the rally was done to personally hand out any awards. I hope for her sake that the troubles that have befallen her give her opportunity for pause, reflection, change and regrowth. She inspired many and created a great community where people could come together to appreciate each others work. For that reason and because I know that others have appreciated my work, I post the Celebrate the Poets of May award and congratulate everyone who put themselves out there for so many to appraise and praise over the days, weeks and months past. May your love of poetry continue to flourish.

Poetry
the words within me
flow freely,
soar softly
not for thee,
although I love that you see.

I hold heart exquisitely,
tenderly
with words that flee
across pages free
every time I want to be
heard lovingly.

For it is ME
that I write for
Me
that heals my soul
me
that needs release
and finds it
with the words on the page.

You are just along
for my ride,
but I hope you enjoy
the journey.
~Peace~

Reaching further

Child
Beautiful, gangly
Hanging, laughing, falling
Determined to master the monkey bars
Adventurist.

~~~
I was inspired by a new style of poetry that I was recently introduced to. This is my interpretation of a Cinquain poem. My little monkeys were inspired by a climber in a friend's back yard. Climb higher, reach farther, dream further my little ones...
Let us dance
Old friends walking
down yesterday's path
   follow the curve
      of memories
         into today's light.
What binds past
moments into present
   days of bliss
      worth sharing anew
          with all of you?
Serenity, comfort,
peace and praise
   All a piece
      worth carving out
         specks of time for.
Distant paths
converge and blend
   similarities both stark,
     nay insignificant
         hold words wrapped with hugs.
Today meters on with
lines drawn further
   along the page
      of history's rhythm
         into tomorrow's remembering.
Stay forever
in my mind perchance
   to give me youth,
      today's presence
         and infinite mortality.
Let us Dance ~
Stoep in Rain
Here is my attempt at concrete poetry from many moons ago. I thought it was quite clever at the time. I share it here as an addition to my African tale, as it was written in Port St Johns, South Africa. I  will also include it over at Jingle's to see if anyone appreciates my whimsy at Jingle's Poet's Rally. I will transliterate below;
Green, leafy
STOEP in RAIN.
Pine tree Sprinkled
with moisture
D
   O
      W
          N
at the
Beach.
Grey clouds
Sque tears ezing
on
ME.
Wet F o o t p r i n t s
Trace
THE PATH
2
The Toilet Bowl
I spent a lot of time thinking and creativity came back to me a spell while in this tranquil locale. I would suggest it in a heart beat for anyone wishing to travel in a quiet kind of way with nature on your doorstep and all around.
A Rainstorm
I have kissed.
I have caressed.
I have listened to the wind.
   Our Karma did not hold.
I have laughed.
I have cried.
I have held your heavy hands.
   Our Karma did not hold.
The elements,
yours and mine,
Do not match;
   Such could have been foreseen?
I thrive in my natural element; water.
You survive in the air
as a cloud,
   Constant.
I can be a part of you,
live in your cloud,
visit the air,
   but not forever.
We separate and go our own ways.
I drop out of your skies,
Quench my thirst in my lake
   And sigh.
Our experiences lie in memories.
So for now I release your hands.
I wipe away my tears
and check my laughter.
I will wait for the until.
The until of tomorrow.
Until we meet again
   in different time and place.
Until we share again
   and laugh, and cry, and be.
Until the skies call for me again
Where I will survive for an instant
And then become memory again.
Ghost Rhythms
The ring leader was missing tonight.
He was not there to beat his drum.
He did not share his gentle smile.
His rhythmic tones set me adrift,
   but no I cannot cry.
My rhythm man did not join the samba.
He did not stamp a conga groove.
He was not part of the percussion.
His agile hands failed to set the mood,
   but no I did not sigh.
Men and women in a circle
all with hearts so pure to share.
Came together with a purpose;
Making music with a flair;
   and yes your spirit still did fly!
Dear, sweet friend
with smooth, pure vibes.
You have raised me up
on days low in faith's  ride.
   I drum for you.
Tonight
and every night
that the rhythm
trickles
through chaos' pores
I drum for you.
I cannot walk down life's paths alone
when my friend's heart
 holds quiet
my sodden tears and fears.
I drum for you.
I drum for you,
 to come together.
I drum for me,
to release.
I drum for the world
to make it better
I drum.
I pray.
I drum.
This little jem is from week 18 at Jingle's poet's rally.
She has it going every week, so you can stop by and check out some of the fantastic poets she has found here. I nominate Megzone for this week as she comes up with something different all the time and makes it work! Thanks for visiting.
Fabulous Friday
The Most Open-Minded Poet Award
The Most Honest Poet Award
The Most Intelligent Poet Award
   Imagine my surprise after a beautiful day spent with a close friend, her daughter and my two little ones, to come home and be honoured with the above awards. Dear Jingle handed out her awards today from the Thursday Poets' Rally and I got bling all over the place! Yeehaaw mama! She is such a sweet lady and I am thrilled to have met her. Thanks Ji!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

   Really my day has been blessed all around. It started with cuddles from my cuties under the covers. Continued with coffee. Ahhh! Braids made for a beauty, so the barber was belayed. That fit in time for a gander at the garden store where some new gems followed me home. Healthy herbs are an honest dollar spent, I say. I itch to get in and plant all! The afternoon saw shopping, sipping sweetness and silly girls swirling all around. Videos viewed gave Mommas a moment to meditate on plant mindfulness in mid-day musings. We retired inside, so reiki I could apply. Restful and relaxing for both receiver and recipient. All topped off with a gourmet feast beyond belief. The iconic fry and meaty dog, with a cold beer chaser. One can do no better than a Friday with friends and family and fabulous fanfares.

Happy Friday to you! I hope sunshine hits your world this weekend and gives you smiles.

Word Games

Thursday looms
and words doth race.
Gather them round
this dark place.

We shall start a bright fire
and toss verbs to the flame.
As adjectives admire,
pronouns blame.

Stack them up
and build them higher.
No adverbs allowed
to conspire.

Now quietly watch
as night steals interjection's quarrel.
The blaze of my stanza's fate
lends a poetry moral.

Don't mess with the noun.
It will make you frown.
Ha! These lines win
a big ole grin.

Something different for Jingle's Poet's Rally this week. Happy Thursday! Enjoy!
