this dance

swaying in time
these bodies united
a love that's sublime
thou not always abided

a look in those eyes
tender touches that match
who could possibly decry
their heart's song that attaches

two women together
embraced cheek to cheek
A beauty to behold
something we all seek

as an honoured guest
to witness, I felt blessed

In "Can I Have This Dance", Anne Murray sings of a love profound that is felt in one's soul. It is a beautiful song, regardless of your love of her or a taste in country music. Plus it makes for a perfect song for a slow dance with that special someone.

This song was played at a dance I went to Saturday evening in association with the London Lesbian Film Festival. It was dedicated to a couple who were wed the previous week. It was beautiful to see the dance floor fill up with so many people and I was touched to be there. The song is still ringing in my head and the smile that it gave me on Saturday is still there at the thought of it. I guess I am just a sucker for love.

This sonnet was inspired by all the happiness and love that I was witness to that night. I hope you can find a measure of what these women exuded in your own life. If only we could all be so blessed...

lost

icy orbs blue
flow through you
attached to my heart
through mine own eyes, what a start!

I see true
what I want from you,
but wonder if we ever part
whether you'll still be my sweetheart?

It all seems so new
as life dips, sways and brews.
Ach, I am smitten with your dashing art-
ful ways that promise eternal love to impart

my cold resolve at strength is lost
given freely, heedless of this cost

A far cry from 250 words. This poem is even farther from 500 and there doesn't really appear to be even a lick of fiction in there, but I managed to throw in "lost", which is the prompt for this week's new meme hosted by Stranger and Me. If you are interested in checking out their new writing challenge, every Monday they have a new prompt to inspire a "Mostly Fiction" piece. They would love it if you checked it out and be even happier if you joined in!

Thanks for stopping in

Caught in a Stare

'tis Valentine's Day
and I should share some words
you all know by now
that I'm falling hopelessly (so absurd)
but with these feelings full
and time stuffed to match
I fear my writings are lean
and creativity gone through the hatch.
Alas and alack a'day
and I don't care
because this stranger's got a hold of me
caught tight in his stare
Ah, so sweet and now my story is up
Yes, I've prayed at Eros' feet and am happy in full worship

Happy Valentine's Day my friends!

The End of the (OSW) Year

A Christmas Poem

naw

hmmmm...

what then?
haiku for you
to read, analyze, and rate
against doting peers

well,
that doesn't thrill me
although it fits

cinquain
brave, artless
rhyming, scheming, plodding
this isn't going anywhere
poetry

Lord, this is the last OneShot for the year!
Pressures on...
here we go.

...
.....
The Christmas goose
and Christmas gander
just set loose
for a little wander
where to? they wonder
as their route around
they did ponder
with trailing fox none too confound
A stop upon a little mound
helped the straggler
to make up ground
and sneak in a littler nearer
Feathers flying to the sky high
alas the fox is left with nigh Christmas chicken pie.

Oh, feckless words!
what sonnet is this?
that tries my brain
and poetic nerves
with none a thought
you do deserve
the trash heap abyss
no more to strain
a pen's sweet curves
Ai- just flow is sought
but for today, I will away
and grace One Shot Wednesday with A New Day
